Employment Contracts

An employment contract means an agreement establishing an employment relationship between an employer and an employee, whether express or implied, whether oral or in writing; it as well talks about the terms and conditions of employment.

The employment contract shows the relation that exists between the employer and the employee and clearly states the rights and obligations of either party.

It is typically voluntary, deliberate, and legally enforceable, therefore, binding. The employee must agree to this contract as a condition of his/her employment.

The Employment Code Act 2019, Section (22) states that “Where an employer engages an employee for a period of six months or more or for a number of working days equivalent to six months or more within a year, the contract of employment shall be in writing”.
